Two Arrested in Navi Mumbai for Extorting, Attempting to Murder Transgender Individuals

Navi Mumbai, 6th June 2024: In Mumbai, authorities have apprehended two individuals accused of extorting and attempting to murder two transgender individuals outside a railway station in Navi Mumbai. According to reports, the incident occurred when the victims were soliciting alms outside the railway station and were approached by three assailants who initiated the attack. While two of the perpetrators were arrested late on Tuesday, law enforcement is actively pursuing the third suspect.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Yogesh, also known as Parshuram Nilkant (32), and Pratik Kamble (21). Efforts are ongoing to locate the third suspect involved in the incident. According to the complaint, the two victims were seeking alms near Ghansoli railway station on June 2 when the accused demanded money from one of them, threatening to prohibit them from begging in the area if they refused.

Subsequently, the accused allegedly subjected one victim to verbal abuse and physical assault, utilizing iron rods and knives, resulting in severe injuries. Upon witnessing the assault, the other victim intervened to aid their friend but was also attacked. Both victims received medical treatment at a hospital and subsequently filed a complaint with the authorities.

The police have filed charges against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 384 (extortion), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention), as confirmed by an official from the Rabale MIDC police station.
