Two Men Arrested for Stealing Rickshaws and Two-wheelers in Mumbai to Fuel Alcohol Addiction

Mumbai, 26th April 2023: The Ramnagar police arrested two thieves on Tuesday for stealing two-wheelers and rickshaws parked on the road near residential areas with fake keys. The investigation by the police revealed that they stole vehicles to support their alcohol addiction.

The accused have been identified as Shrikant Shedge (49), a resident of Pisavli and Vikram Salunkhe (43), a resident of Vitthalwadi. Shrikant is a technician and Vikram is a rickshaw driver.

The theft was reported by a citizen who had their rickshaw stolen from the Thakurli Chole village area at night. After the complaint was filed at the Ramnagar police station, the police began their search by examining CCTV footage in the area. The footage revealed two men stealing rickshaws.

The police identified the thieves and began searching for them. Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Sanap, Havaldar Nilesh Patil, and Prashant Sarnaik from the Ramnagar Crime Investigation Team received information that two individuals were coming to sell spare parts for a rickshaw at a scrap shop in Pisavli on the Shilphata road.

The police laid a trap in the Pisavli area and arrested the two individuals as soon as they arrived with the spare parts. During the investigation, it was discovered that they had an addiction to alcohol and were stealing to finance their habit. They did not have enough money to buy alcohol nearby, so they were selling what they stole to get the money they needed.
