Two Policemen Arrested For Extorting Rs 10,000 From Bag-Sellers

Mumbai, 17th October 2022: Two policemen have been arrested for extorting Rs 10,000 from bag sellers. The complainant Hemendra Patel and his cousin Prateek Patel had gone to Ichalkaranji in Sangli on 2nd October on business. Then, on Saturday morning, around 8:30 am, he went to Mumbai’s J.J. Junction from where he was going home. This time he had a bag of precious stones that he was selling. There was also some cash. As the complainant was going to his house, two policemen in uniform approached him. He inspected the belongings of the complainants and asked about where the precious stones were brought from. After that, both men forcefully put the complainant in the police car and demanded Rs 50,000 to let him go safely. Rs 10,000 was forcibly withdrawn by compromise.

 

 

 

The complainant informed about this incident on the Twitter account of Mumbai Police. He also came to the police station and filed a complaint. It was informed that the Marg Police registered a case regarding this issue and seized the property of the accused Sunil Vartak and Vijay Gaikwad.
