Uber Relaunches Luxury Service Uber Black in Mumbai, Priced 30-40% Higher
Mumbai, 11th September 2024: Uber, the US-based ride-hailing giant, announced on Wednesday that it will reintroduce its premium service, Uber Black, in Mumbai next week. This service will be priced 30-40% higher than Uber Premier and is designed to cater to the increasing demand for luxury ride options in India.
With the return of this premium offering, the company anticipates strong interest, particularly from corporate clients. Uber Black will feature upscale vehicles, highly-rated drivers, and perks such as quiet mode, climate control, and assistance with luggage.
Riders will also benefit from an extended five-minute pickup window without being charged a waiting fee.
Uber originally entered the Indian market in 2013 with Uber Black, offering luxury vehicles like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. Over time, the service shifted to more affordable models like the Toyota Innova and Honda City before being phased out. The reintroduced Uber Black will now utilize SUVs and MUVs from brands like Toyota and MG.
“We are excited to bring back Uber Black… to align with the changing expectations of Indian consumers,” said Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia.
The service will be launched in partnership with Uber’s fleet operators. Uber has been strengthening its fleet network, including a $20 million investment in Everest Fleet last year.
Currently, Uber operates in 125 cities across India, with more than 1.1 million active drivers. In recent years, the company has expanded its offerings to include intercity rides, pre-booked trips, and shuttle services. Singh also mentioned that demand is currently outpacing the supply of vehicles on the platform.
