Uddhav’s Stay On Work Of Mumbai Metro Car Shed in Aarey Lifted By New Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
Mumbai, 21st July 2022: About two and a half years ago, the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray suspended the work of the proposed car shed in Aarey due to environmental degradation. The process of shifting this car shed to Kanjurmarg was also initiated.
However, now this decision has been reversed by the current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and he has lifted the stay on the work of the Metro Car shed in Aarey and made it clear that the car shed will be built in Aarey. The way for the car shed which was suspended for almost two and a half years will now be clear.
During the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government in the state, it was decided to make the car shed of Metro-3 in Aarey. Accordingly, 25 percent of the work on the car shed was also completed. However, when the Maha Vikas Aghadi government came to power in November 2019, then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray suspended the work of Aarey Carshed on the very first day, to minimise the environmental damage. However, the dispute between the Central Government and the State Government over the ownership of this place has gone to the High Court.
However, as soon as power was transferred in the state, Shinde and Fadnavis decided to make the car shed of Metro-3 in Aarey in the very first meeting of the cabinet.
Accordingly, Fadnavis instructed the Advocate General to present his position in the court during the next hearing. Therefore, the way to get rid of the metro car shed tangle has been cleared. However, this decision may not delight the social activists and citizens as it would bring a major loss to the biological environment.
