Cidco Issues 490 Notices for Unauthorized Constructions Across Navi Mumbai Nodes
Navi Mumbai, 13th July 2024: The chief controller of unauthorized constructions at Cidco has issued 490 notices concerning unauthorized constructions within its jurisdiction. The names of the builders involved have been publicly disclosed through a local newspaper. Nerul leads with the highest count at 108 illegal constructions, followed by 76 in Uran and 62 in Ghansoli.
However, activists and petitioners in the Bombay High Court have raised doubts about the accuracy of Cidco’s data, suggesting that it represents only a fraction of the actual problem. According to the disclosed data, Pushpak Nagar has 56 illegal constructions, Koparkhairane has 53, Panvel 36, Ulwe 28, Kharghar 17, Kamothe 14, Belapur 12, Airoli 11, Taloja 9, Kalamboli 5, Digha 1, and Vashi 1. These notices were issued between January and March 2024 under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act of 1966.
Cidco has detailed the notice numbers, names and addresses of the illegal construction owners, sector with survey or plot numbers, construction status, and area of construction on a node-wise basis. These constructions range from ground-level structures to multi-storey buildings.
The public has been cautioned against purchasing properties from these unauthorized constructions. City officials have urged people to verify their land records to avoid legal repercussions and financial losses.
Activist Rajeev Mishra commented, “The actual number of illegal constructions in the city far exceeds what Cidco has disclosed.” Meanwhile, PIL petitioner and advocate Kishor Shetty proposed, “Cidco’s estate offices should take demolition action at the plinth or foundation stage of any property, accompanied by prominent signboards indicating Cidco ownership.”
