Mumbai Region Sees 20 Candidates Named by BJP for Upcoming Elections

Mumbai, 21st October 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial roster of 99 candidates on Sunday, October 20, for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024. Among these candidates, around 20 have been announced for assembly seats in the Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan areas.

Maharashtra’s Mumbai region has a total of 36 assembly seats. Of the 16 current BJP MLAs in Mumbai, 14 have been renominated in this first list.

In the Mumbai region, the BJP has nominated Ashish Shelar, the party’s Mumbai unit president, to contest from the Bandra West assembly constituency for the third consecutive time. His brother, Vinod Shelar, will compete from the Malad West seat. The BJP has chosen a new candidate to replace the sitting MLA from Kalyan East in Thane district.

For the Maharashtra Elections 2024, here are the candidates contesting from the Mumbai city and suburban region, as well as Thane and Kalyan:

Key Highlights from BJP’s Initial Candidate List for Maharashtra Assembly Elections:

1. The BJP’s initial list includes 13 female candidates. The party has retained 71 MLAs while replacing three. Notably, the sitting MLAs from Chinchwad in Pune district, Kalyan East in Thane district, and Srigonda in the Ahilyanagar district have been changed.

2. Among the prominent names in the first list are Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, and ministers Girish Mahajan, Sudhir Mungantiwar, and Chandrakant Patil.

3. Fadnavis has been renominated from his home constituency, Nagpur South West, while Narwekar will contest from Colaba in South Mumbai.

4. Ministers Sudhir Mungantiwar, Girish Mahajan, and Chandrakant Patil have been nominated for the Ballarpur, Jamner, and Kothrud constituencies, respectively.

5. Pratibha Pachpute will take over the candidacy from her husband, Babanrao Pachpute, in the Srigonda segment, while Ashwini Jagtap, the sitting MLA from Chinchwad, has been replaced by her brother-in-law, Shankar Jagtap.

The Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra has yet to announce its seat-sharing agreement, which includes the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.

Maharashtra has a total of 288 assembly seats. The BJP aims to contest approximately 150 of these but is currently negotiating with its allies, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

Voting for the Maharashtra Elections is scheduled for November 20, with results expected to be declared on November 23.
