Mumbai: Milind Deora to Challenge Aaditya Thackeray for Worli Seat in Assembly Elections

Mumbai, 25th October 2024: Milind Deora, who left the Congress to join Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena earlier this year, is set to challenge Aaditya Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UBT) for the Worli seat in Mumbai during next month’s Assembly elections.

On Friday, Deora tweeted, “Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ji believes that it’s time for justice for Worli and its residents. Together, we are paving the way forward and will unveil our vision soon. It’s Worli NOW!”

Aaditya Thackeray, the current MLA from Worli and son of Uddhav Thackeray, won the seat in the 2019 elections.

Having joined Shiv Sena in January, Deora is currently a Rajya Sabha MP and has been assigned to the Worli constituency for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Sources indicate that the Shinde-led faction believes Deora can appeal to middle-class Maharashtrians, fishermen, and affluent residents in Worli.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), under Raj Thackeray’s leadership, has nominated Sandeep Deshpande for the Worli seat and is reportedly seeking support from the Shiv Sena, while Shinde aims to field his candidate against Aaditya Thackeray.

The Shiv Sena is part of the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) consists of three primary parties: Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP led by Sharad Pawar.

The elections for all 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra will take place in a single phase on November 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.
