Pune: Patil Writes to Gadkari, Seeks Flyover Near Mercedes-Benz Junction in Baner
Pune, 22nd July 2026: Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister and Kothrud MLA Chandrakant Patil has urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to approve the construction of a flyover on National Highway-48 at Baner to ease chronic traffic congestion and improve road safety.
In a letter to Gadkari, Patil said the stretch near the Bitwise Campus, Mercedes-Benz showroom and Sumankirti showroom has emerged as one of Pune’s worst traffic bottlenecks. The existing underpass in the area is operating beyond its capacity, resulting in long vehicle queues and posing a serious risk to pedestrians crossing the highway.
Patil noted that the Narhe-Ravet stretch of NH-48, which connects Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, has witnessed a sharp increase in traffic due to the growth of IT companies, educational institutions, industrial hubs and newly developed townships along the corridor. Originally designed as a bypass, the highway has now become a major route for local traffic as well.
He said the existing six-lane highway and service roads are no longer adequate to handle the increasing traffic volume, leading to frequent congestion, particularly at the Baner junction.
Patil said local residents, industrial establishments and business owners have been consistently demanding a flyover at the location to provide a long-term solution to traffic snarls and improve commuter safety.
He has requested Gadkari to accord priority approval to the project and grant the necessary administrative and financial clearances. Patil expressed confidence that the proposed flyover would significantly improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity between Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
