Pune: AAP Flags Muddy Water, Rising Water-Borne Diseases in 32 Merged Villages; Seeks PMC Action

Pune, 22nd July 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that residents of the 32 villages recently merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits have been receiving muddy and contaminated drinking water since the onset of the monsoon, leading to a rise in water-borne diseases. The party has urged the civic administration to take immediate corrective measures.

AAP Pune city president Dhananjay Benkar submitted a memorandum to PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and the water supply department, demanding immediate action to ensure the supply of safe drinking water and prevent further health risks.

Benkar alleged that water supplied through municipal pipelines in the newly merged villages is muddy, contaminated and unfit for consumption. He claimed that residents have reported an increase in illnesses such as diarrhoea, vomiting, jaundice, typhoid, fever and other gastrointestinal infections due to the poor water quality.

He alleged that despite repeated complaints over the past month, the civic administration has failed to address the issue.

AAP has demanded an immediate inspection of the water supply system in all 32 villages, regular laboratory testing of drinking water samples and public disclosure of the test reports. The party also sought a permanent solution by identifying and rectifying the source of contamination.

Benkar further alleged that several private operators selling filtered water through coin-operated water dispensing units were supplying contaminated water in the name of purified drinking water without adequate quality checks. He demanded strict action against officials and contractors found responsible for the alleged lapses.

Calling the issue a serious public health concern, Benkar urged the PMC to act before water-borne diseases escalate into a larger outbreak, adding that ensuring clean and safe drinking water is the civic administration’s primary responsibility.
