Mumbai Real Estate Agent Apologises Over ‘Pure Vegetarian’ Buyer Remark for Rs 6.5-Crore Flat

Mumbai, 17th August 2026: Real-estate agent Bhavesh Kaware has apologised after sparking controversy by saying that only “pure vegetarian” buyers should contact him for a ₹6.5-crore flat in Mumbai’s Tardeo area.

Kaware issued the apology after meeting Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray at Shivteerth, the MNS headquarters and residence of party chief Raj Thackeray, on Saturday.

“If my statement has hurt the sentiments of Mumbaikars, I apologise,” Kaware said. He also apologised to Amit Thackeray and said he did not want to escalate the matter further.

The controversy began after Kaware posted a video on Wednesday showcasing a nearly completed two-bedroom apartment in an upcoming high-rise in Tardeo, one of South Mumbai’s prominent and expensive neighbourhoods. The approximately 900-square-foot property was being offered for ₹6.50 crore.

While showcasing the apartment and its views of South Mumbai and the sea, Kaware specifically said that he was looking for “pure vegetarian clients” for the property. The remarks triggered widespread criticism online, with several people questioning whether dietary restrictions would continue to be imposed on residents even after the purchase of the property.

Kaware later deleted the video.

During his meeting with Thackeray, the MNS leader reportedly reprimanded him over the remarks and asked him to apologise to Mumbaikars. Thackeray also criticised videos Kaware posted after the controversy, saying they had further hurt people’s sentiments.

Kaware said he has been providing housing to Marathi people and would continue to do so. He also pointed out that he owns chicken shops and apologised to their customers.

The incident has reignited debate over dietary preferences, housing discrimination and the extent to which sellers or housing societies can impose restrictions on prospective homebuyers in Mumbai.
