Harassment Of Married Woman; Complaint Lodged Against In-Laws And Husband In Navi Mumbai NRI Police Station
Navi Mumbai, 1st July 2023: A case of domestic violence has been registered by the police against a husband and his relatives, including three sisters-in-law and in-laws. The complaint was filed by a married woman who has been subjected to physical and mental harassment despite having a love marriage. According to the victim, the harassment began only a few days after the marriage, and the situation has since escalated dramatically.
Adding to the victim’s anguish, she recently gave birth to a daughter. However, her in-laws expressed their disappointment, as they had hoped for a male child. Astonishingly, the colour of the baby girl’s skin became a cause for further mistreatment, as her family desired a son.
The situation was further exacerbated when the husband himself threatened the victim with the release of pre-marriage videos and photos if she dared to disclose the ongoing harassment to anyone. Fearing the consequences, the victim bears the torture silently.
Finally, frustrated with these circumstances, a victim filed a complaint of domestic violence at the NRI police station. Based on her detailed statement, the police registered a case against her husband, Sudeep Dhoju, as well as her mother-in-law, Lakshmi, father-in-law, Ramesh, and three sisters-in-law named Sharmila, Kamala, and Aruna. These incidents of abuse and harassment happened between July 12, 2017, and June 28, 2023.
As of now, the accused individuals have not been arrested, and an ongoing investigation is underway. The police are actively searching for the husband, while it is understood that the other relatives are currently residing in Nepal.
