Pune: Pimpri Police Detains Two for Assaulting YCM Hospital Doctor and Staff

Pimpri, 4th March 2024: The doctor and staff of Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital were subjected to assault by two individuals, Sharveen Norman Arlen (23 years old) and Norman Lyrus Arlen (48 years old), both residents of Moshi. The incident occurred around 12:45 am on Monday (4th). Naresh Shivanand Anjanadevi (25 years old, resident of Pimpri) complained to the Pimpri Police Station regarding the matter.

According to the police report, Naresh Anjanadevi, one of the accused, was on duty at Emergency Ward No. 50 at YCM Hospital in Pimpri. On Monday midnight, Norman, another accused, brought his daughter to the hospital, and all three daughters were assaulted. The doctor recommended a CT scan for one of the girls, but the accused insisted on receiving the Medical Legal Case (MLC) report without the scan, further demanding an exaggerated depiction of injuries in the report.

The offenders insisted on refraining from conducting a CT scan and demanded an expedited MLC report. They physically assaulted and verbally abused the complainant, Naresh, as well as Doctor Atharva, pressuring them to inflate the severity of injuries in the report. The complainant mentioned having connections with an MLA, and the accused issued threats of repercussions the next day.

This incident escalated tensions at YCM Hospital, prompting police intervention due to the accused creating a disturbance by screaming and crying within the hospital premises. Assistant Commissioner of Police Satish Mane confirmed the registration of a case, leading to the immediate arrest of the accused.
