Midnight Bomb Threat Triggers Police Alert in Mumbai, Originating from Pune Caller

Mumbai, 10th June 2025: A late-night phone call from Pune triggered a high-level security alert in Mumbai after a hotel worker allegedly issued threats to shoot his former employer and orchestrate a bomb blast in the city. The threat led to rapid coordination between Pune and Mumbai Police and a temporary state of heightened vigilance in the financial capital.

Threat Call Sparks Panic
The incident began when Sandeep Gade, a resident of Indira Nagar, Kothrud, contacted the Pune Police control room around midnight. Gade, who owns a hotel in Satara, informed police that a recently resigned employee — Sandeep Singh — had phoned him with violent threats, stating he intended to shoot Gade and carry out a bomb blast in Mumbai.

Taking the matter seriously, Kothrud Police immediately alerted Mumbai Police, triggering security measures and citywide surveillance to preempt any potential danger.

Hoax Threats on the Rise
While the current threat is still under investigation, law enforcement officials say such incidents are increasingly frequent. In the last year alone, Mumbai Police have dealt with over 100 similar hoax threats and false alarms. Officials emphasize that every threat must be treated as credible until proven otherwise, given the high stakes involved in public safety.

A senior officer remarked, “Even if 99 out of 100 calls turn out false, one genuine threat is all it takes to cause irreparable harm. That’s why we follow full protocol each time.”

Legal Gaps Fuel Recurring Misuse
Despite the seriousness of these threats, existing legal frameworks often fall short. Many perpetrators are booked under general sections and granted bail quickly, reducing the deterrence value. Policemen and senior officers have called for stricter laws specifically targeting false bomb and threat calls, to curb the growing menace.

Adding to the problem, police also face misuse of emergency services, with calls stemming from personal disputes, romantic feuds, or financial arguments. Some even dial control rooms just to test if emergency numbers are active, wasting valuable time and resources.

A senior official lamented, “We’re not only fighting crime and maintaining law and order — now we’re also battling fake threats and the spread of fear. It puts tremendous pressure on already stretched police resources.”

While no suspicious activity has yet been reported in Mumbai, investigations are ongoing into the origin and intent of the threat. Authorities have assured the public that safety measures remain in place and that any misuse of public emergency systems will be dealt with firmly.
