Mumbai: Actor Sahil Khan Arrested in Connection with Rs 15,000 Crore Betting App Scam

Mumbai, 29th April 2024: Actor Sahil Khan, aged 50, was apprehended on Sunday in connection with his suspected involvement in the Rs 15,000 crore Mahadev betting app case. Khan was presented before a city court and subsequently remanded to police custody until May 1. His arrest follows intensive efforts by a special investigation team of the crime branch, culminating in his capture from a hotel in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, and subsequent extradition to Mumbai.

Khan, known for his work as a fitness expert, had evaded law enforcement since April 24, continually changing locations in an attempt to evade capture. Despite his efforts to elude authorities, the Bombay High Court’s rejection of his anticipatory bail application on April 24 intensified police efforts to apprehend him.

Police tracked Khan’s movements across various states, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh, employing advanced surveillance techniques to monitor his whereabouts. A senior crime branch official revealed Khan’s alleged partnership in a betting app firm, highlighting his role in promoting the app through social media and suspected forgery of documents. However, Khan reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators regarding the money trail, exacerbating suspicions surrounding his involvement.

Khan, previously summoned to provide a statement to the city crime branch office, emerged as a prime suspect alongside Mahadev betting app promoters Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. Investigations into financial transactions between real estate companies and the app’s promoters have uncovered a complex web of deceit, with several derivative betting apps linked to the Mahadev platform. The case, initially registered at Matunga police station in November, has implicated the accused on charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
