Political Coalition in Navi Mumbai Launches Campaign to Abolish CIDCO Transfer Charges Burdening Homebuyers
Navi Mumbai, 24th September 2024: A coalition of political parties in Navi Mumbai has initiated a campaign to eliminate the excessive CIDCO transfer charges that have long posed a financial strain on property buyers in the city. Spearheaded by Adv. Anil Kaushik, President of the Navi Mumbai District Congress Committee and former Deputy Mayor, the movement is attracting support from both citizens and political leaders across various parties.
Originally implemented to finance the city’s development, the CIDCO transfer charges are now viewed as outdated and unjust. Despite the establishment of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in 1992, CIDCO continues to impose these fees on property transfers, leading to claims of “double taxation.” Adv. Kaushik stated, “CIDCO’s role in developing Navi Mumbai has significantly decreased, yet the transfer charges continue to be a substantial financial burden for property buyers, particularly those purchasing at market prices.”
The campaign emphasizes the lack of transparency regarding the allocation of these funds and argues against the fairness of imposing transfer fees on properties acquired through market-rate tenders. Advocates, such as Shyambhau Kadam, State Joint Secretary of AAP Maharashtra, have urged residents of Navi Mumbai and political parties to unite in demanding the complete removal of these charges, which primarily benefit CIDCO and the Maharashtra State Government.
To support the campaign, citizens are being encouraged to sign a petition and participate by completing a simple Google form. The organizers are calling on all residents to join forces and oppose these burdensome charges, which have become a significant financial challenge for homebuyers in Navi Mumbai.
