Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Unauthorized Constructions and Tapri Mafia

Navi Mumbai, 19th January 2024: To curb unauthorized constructions and address issues related to the Tapri (small shops) mafia, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has initiated a comprehensive campaign. The crackdown, initially targeting the Turbhe zone, has resulted in the removal of nine unauthorized structures within two days. The enforcement action also involved dismantling illegally constructed buildings and the removal of unauthorized hoardings.

The campaign extends to various sections of the city, emphasizing the NMMC’s commitment to maintaining urban order and ensuring compliance with regulations. Notably, the NMMC has observed instances where stalls meant for disabled individuals have been misused for unauthorized businesses. As a part of this crackdown, action is being taken against stalls operating without the necessary licenses.

In Turbhe Zone alone, nine stalls faced enforcement measures, and a building in Sector 20, constructed without proper permission, was promptly dismantled. The NMMC has collected fines totalling Rs 15,000 from the encroachers as part of the ongoing effort to discourage unauthorized activities.

The campaign is not limited to physical structures; it also addresses issues related to unauthorized banners, posters, and hawkers in the area. Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar’s directives have fueled this initiative, which is being diligently executed under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Rahul Gethe and Assistant Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe
