Navi Mumbai: Near Uran Railway Station Claims Lives of Young Couple, Leaves Toddler Critically Injured

Navi Mumbai, 8th April 2024: A tragic incident unfolded near Uran railway station on Saturday night when a reckless car driver collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of a young couple and critical injuries to their three-year-old daughter. The driver, identified as Jai Chandrahas Gharat, not only showed disregard for traffic rules but also verbally abused a railway police constable who witnessed the horrifying accident.

The victims, Pavitra Baral (40) and his wife Rashmita Baral (37) lost their lives in the collision, while their daughter, Pari Baral, sustained severe leg injuries and is currently hospitalized at Apollo Hospital in Navi Mumbai. The incident took place despite the presence of a speed breaker, indicating the reckless speed at which the car was being driven.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Atul Chauhan (26), who was present at the scene, faced verbal abuse from the accused driver, Gharat, who aggressively confronted him and demanded the removal of the bodies from the road. Gharat then fled the scene, leaving behind his damaged car.

As both victims were killed in the accident, Chauhan himself filed a complaint at the Uran police station, leading to the registration of an FIR against Gharat under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving.

In his statement, Chauhan detailed how Gharat failed to slow down despite the presence of a speed breaker, resulting in the collision with the scooty. The Baral family was returning from a birthday party when the tragic incident occurred.

Allegations of Gharat’s intoxication at the time of the accident have surfaced, with locals urging swift action from the police. The delay in Gharat’s arrest could potentially hinder investigations into the matter and raise questions about his possible inebriation during the fatal accident.
