Pune: PCMC Begins Rs 10 Lakh Compensation Payout to Moshi Landfill Victims’ Families
Pune, 22nd July 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has begun disbursing the Rs 10 lakh ex gratia announced for the families of those killed in the July 8 Moshi landfill collapse, with compensation already credited to the legal heirs of four victims.
Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi said the civic administration has fast-tracked the process following directions from Mayor Ravi Landge. The financial assistance is being transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts after verification of the required documents.
Among those who have received the compensation are the families of Sunny Mane, Rahul Gaikwad, Waman Kasbe and Akshay Sawant. Sunny Mane’s wife, Manisha Mane, and mother, Faujia Azim Mane, received Rs 5 lakh each. Rahul Gaikwad’s wife, Bhagyashree Gaikwad, was paid Rs 5 lakh, while his parents, Saraswati and Arjun Gaikwad, received Rs 2.5 lakh each. Waman Kasbe’s wife, Suman Kasbe, received the entire Rs 10 lakh. The compensation for Akshay Sawant’s family had been released earlier after completion of documentation.
The civic body said verification of documents submitted by the legal heirs of the remaining five victims — Bhavesh Vani, Sunil Korke, Mahesh Kumbhar, Nagesh Gaikwad and Ranjit Patil — is in its final stage. The compensation will be transferred to their accounts immediately after the process is completed.
“We are implementing the decision to provide financial assistance to the families of those killed in the Moshi landfill tragedy on priority. As soon as the required documents are verified, the amount is being credited directly to the accounts of eligible legal heirs. The remaining cases are also in the final stages of processing,” Suryawanshi said.
Mayor Ravi Landge said the civic administration had been instructed to ensure that no eligible beneficiary has to wait for financial assistance. “All eligible legal heirs will receive the compensation as per the prescribed norms at the earliest,” he said.
