Pune: PMC Says City Has Just 54 Potholes Left, Commuters Say Roads Tell a Different Story
Pune, 23rd July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s claim that only 54 potholes remain across the city has drawn criticism from commuters and residents, who say several major roads continue to be riddled with craters despite repeated repair work during the monsoon.
According to the civic body’s road department, 1,134 of the 1,188 potholes reported between July 7 and July 21 have been repaired, with the remaining 54 scheduled to be filled by August 1. Officials also claimed the city would be made pothole-free within the next 10 days.
The PMC said it repaired potholes covering 634 sq m using cold mix and resurfaced 2,088 sq m of roads with hot mix asphalt. Waterlogging was cleared at 162 locations, while murum and granular sub-base (GSB) material were used over 857 sq m. Another 62 sq m of damaged roads was repaired using paving blocks.
The highest number of potholes was reported from the Wanowrie ward, where the civic body claimed to have repaired all 194 identified potholes. Repairs were also carried out in Kondhwa-Dhanori (358), Hadapsar-Manjari (127), Warje-Karvenagar (104), Bibvewadi (73), Kothrud-Bavdhan (68), Aundh-Baner (59), Yerawada-Wadgaonsheri (35), Sinhagad Road (26) and Nagar Road (13).
However, motorists said roads such as Karve Road, Nagar Road, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, Hadapsar, Sinhagad Road and several suburban stretches continue to have numerous potholes. They alleged that repairs carried out using cold mix often fail after fresh spells of rain, with the same potholes reappearing within days.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divte said road repair work was being carried out on a war footing. He said most reported potholes had already been repaired and the remaining 54 would be filled before August 1, while inspections and repair work would continue across all ward offices.
