2.8 Kg Gold Seized At Mumbai Airport, 1 Person Arrested

Mumbai, 16th September 2022: The Customs Department arrested a resident of Uttar Pradesh from the airport on charges of smuggling around 2.843 kg of gold. The accused had arrived at Mumbai airport from Dubai. A case has been registered against him under the Customs Act.

 

The officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department arrested the accused identified as Mohammed Naushad (27). Naushad had come to Mumbai from Dubai by flight on Wednesday. He was detained at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on suspicion. Customs officers searched for him. During the search, a total of 2 kg 843 grams of gold in the form of powder covered in wax was seized from him. Its price is Rs. 1 crore 38 lakhs. This gold was confiscated from him and Naushad was arrested.

 

Naushad admitted during interrogation that he did not own the gold. He was given that gold to smuggle. He was promised a free air ticket to India for the job, officials said. He has got the identity of the one who gave him the gold. Naushad would get a phone call when he arrived in Mumbai. According to the instructions received over the phone, he was going to give the gold to the concerned person. But before that, he was arrested. The accused was working for a big smuggling gang. The officer said that further investigation into the matter is underway and more details of other associates of the gang are being gathered.
