39 Construction Sites in Thane Face Action Over Dust Pollution Non-Compliance

Thane, 4th January 2025: The Thane Municipal Corporation has issued show-cause notices to 39 construction sites across the city for allegedly violating dust pollution control regulations. These sites, operated by various property developers, were found to be in breach of the guidelines set forth by the corporation in anticipation of the season, as reported by officials on Wednesday.

The corporation had introduced a set of directives to be followed by developers working at around 297 construction sites across Thane, due to unfavourable weather conditions in the city and surrounding areas. Among these guidelines was the requirement for pollution meters, which were regularly monitored by municipal teams. The goal was to minimize dust pollution around these construction sites.

Out of the total sites, 31 were found to be adhering to the rules, while 151 sites showed some deficiencies and were fined, with a directive to meet compliance within a specified timeframe. However, the 39 sites that failed to meet the standards have been issued formal notices. These developers have been warned that their construction activities may be halted if they do not follow the prescribed guidelines in the coming days.

Currently, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Thane has been fluctuating between 105 and 184 over the past week, and many residents have reported experiencing weather-related health issues.
