Mumbai: Major Fire at Andheri’s Jyoti Hotel, All 35 Occupants Rescued Safely

Mumbai, 26th May 2025: A major fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at Jyoti Hotel in the Chakala area of Andheri East, Mumbai, trapping 35 people inside the building. The incident occurred around 3:00 am, with flames first spotted on the sixth floor before rapidly spreading through parts of the hotel, causing panic among guests and local residents.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade responded swiftly to the emergency, dispatching five fire engines to the scene. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before gaining control and successfully evacuating all occupants. Remarkably, no casualties or injuries were reported, despite the intensity of the fire and significant damage to several hotel rooms, some of which were completely gutted.
Thick smoke and flames were visible from the upper floors as emergency crews continued their operation into the morning. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary assessments have ruled out a short circuit or gas leak, but officials are keeping all possibilities open as structural experts evaluate the building’s safety before any reopening.
The hotel management has not yet issued a public statement. Meanwhile, videos of the incident have circulated widely on social media, highlighting the dramatic rescue operation and the prompt response by emergency services.
All 35 individuals, guests and staff, were rescued without harm. Investigations remain ongoing, and further inspections will assess the extent of the damage and the structural integrity of the hotel.
