Three-Month-Old Baby Rescued Within 24 Hours of Kidnapping in Panvel

Panvel, 2nd June 2025: A three-month-old baby kidnapped from a slum near Panvel railway station on Friday afternoon was rescued safely within 24 hours, thanks to a swift and coordinated police operation across multiple cities.
According to Senior Police Inspector Nitin Thakre of Panvel City Police, the baby was abducted around 3:30 PM on Friday while sleeping beside his mother, 25-year-old Devchana Bhosale. The accused, identified as Roshni Vinod Wagheshri, a neighbour from the same slum, allegedly snatched the child and boarded a Pune-bound train from Panvel.
Immediately after the abduction, police registered a case and formed five dedicated teams. These teams launched a statewide search, fanning out across Lonavla, Daund, Karjat, and Pune. However, the suspect managed to evade capture and returned to Kalamboli.
The breakthrough came when Assistant Police Inspector Trupti Shelke of Kalamboli Police Station spotted the woman holding a baby near the Kalamboli Fire Brigade building. Upon questioning, Wagheshri confessed the child was not hers. She was promptly detained, and Kalamboli police informed their counterparts in Panvel.
Following the completion of legal formalities, the baby was safely reunited with his mother on Saturday. The motive behind the kidnapping is still under investigation.
Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Kote of Kalamboli Police praised API Shelke’s alertness and timely action, which led to the safe recovery of the infant. Authorities confirmed that the woman remains in custody and is being interrogated to determine her intent.
