Asha Bhosle Laid to Rest with State Honours in Mumbai
Mumbai, 13th April 2026: Legendary singer Asha Bhosle was laid to rest with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday, with thousands of fans and several prominent personalities attending her funeral.
Her son, Anand Bhosale, performed the last rites and lit the funeral pyre around 5:30 pm, marking an emotional farewell to one of India’s most iconic voices.
Earlier in the day, her mortal remains were draped in the national flag and brought to the cremation ground amid tight security and grief-stricken crowds. Before the final rites, her body was kept at her residence for final darshan, where admirers, family members, and members of the film industry gathered to pay their respects.
The Maharashtra government accorded state honours in recognition of her immense contribution to Indian music. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were present to pay their respects.
Several prominent personalities from the film industry and public life attended the funeral, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Tabu, singers Anu Malik and Shaan, along with other musicians, actors, colleagues, and political leaders who paid tribute to her legacy.

The 92-year-old singer passed away on April 12 after her health deteriorated due to a chest infection and age-related complications. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11, where she breathed her last.
Asha Tai shared a close bond with her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosale, who was present at the funeral and was seen visibly emotional during the last rites.
With a career spanning over eight decades, Asha Tai recorded thousands of songs across multiple languages and genres, earning a reputation for her versatility and distinctive voice. She received several prestigious honours, including the Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Her death marks the end of an era in Indian music. Tributes poured in from across the country, with many remembering her not just for her songs but for the lasting influence she had on generations of artists and listeners.
