Mumbai on High Alert as BMC Warns of High Tides Till July 18; Citizens Urged to Stay Away from Coast
Mumbai, 14th July 2026: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a high-tide alert for Mumbai, warning citizens to remain cautious as the city is expected to witness high tides from July 14 to July 18. The civic body has advised people to avoid venturing near beaches and coastal areas during the high-tide period.
According to the BMC, the highest tide is expected on Thursday, July 16, when sea waves are forecast to reach a height of 4.89 metres at around 1:36 p.m. High tides exceeding 4.5 metres are expected on all five days, increasing the risk of rough sea conditions along Mumbai’s coastline.
The forecast schedule issued by the civic body states that tides of 4.73 metres are expected on July 14 at 12:04 p.m., 4.85 metres on July 15 at 12:51 p.m., 4.89 metres on July 16 at 1:36 p.m., 4.83 metres on July 17 at 2:19 p.m., and 4.66 metres on July 18 at 3:00 p.m.
The BMC has appealed to residents and visitors not to visit beaches or other coastal locations during the high-tide period and to strictly follow advisories issued by the civic administration and Mumbai Police.
Meanwhile, weather observer Athreya Shetty has indicated that while rainfall activity over Maharashtra has weakened in recent days, the southwest monsoon is likely to become active again only after July 20. Until then, the current week is expected to remain largely dry across the state, with minimal chances of rainfall.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and keep track of official weather and civic updates over the coming days.
