Ulhasnagar Hit-and-Run: Elderly Man Killed, BJP Leader’s Son Detained
Ulhasnagar, 14th July 2026: A 65-year-old man was killed and his son seriously injured in a shocking hit-and-run incident in Ulhasnagar on Monday morning after a speeding car allegedly rammed into their motorcycle and ran over the victim while attempting to flee, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Devendra Singh Rajput, a resident of Mharal village. His son, Sanjay Singh Rajput, sustained serious injuries in the accident.
According to police, the father and son were travelling on a motorcycle to Shahad railway station when a car allegedly driven by Avinash Mutha, son of BJP leader Prakash Mutha, collided with their two-wheeler near Birla Gate in Ulhasnagar.
Police said that after the initial impact, the driver allegedly attempted to escape the scene and, in the process, ran over Devendra Singh Rajput again, resulting in his death on the spot. Sanjay Rajput was injured and rushed for medical treatment.
Ulhasnagar Police have detained Avinash Mutha and registered a case. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with residents demanding strict action against those responsible and stronger enforcement against reckless driving.
