Pune: Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Free Land for NDRF Headquarters Near Talegaon

Pune, 21st July 2026: The Maharashtra cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday approved the allotment of three hectares of government land free of cost to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at Sudumbre village, near Talegaon in Maval taluka of Pune district for the expansion of its permanent base.

NDRF Battalion 5 is currently operating from Sudumbre, where its offices and residential quarters for personnel are already located. The force requires a total of 70 acres for its headquarters, of which 62.5 acres are already available. However, an additional 7.5 acres were needed to develop expanded infrastructure.

The requirement arose after a Kendriya Vidyalaya was established on the site about a year ago, reducing the land available for the proposed expansion. The NDRF subsequently requested the state government to allot the remaining land required for its infrastructure.

Earlier, the state government had approved the allotment of the three-hectare grazing land at Sudumbre to the NDRF at market value. The force later requested that the land be provided free of cost, citing its public importance and national significance. Accepting the request, the state cabinet on Tuesday approved the free transfer of the government land to the NDRF.

The three-hectare plot is located to the west of the existing NDRF campus. Once the Revenue, Registration and Stamp Duty Department completes the transfer process, the NDRF is expected to begin construction of the additional infrastructure.

The decision will enable the NDRF to complete the development of its permanent base at Sudumbre. The expanded campus will be used for disaster management training programmes and for stationing specialised response teams to improve preparedness and response to emergencies
