Pune Teen Murder: Four Minors Paraded on Police Vehicle Bonnet, Inquiry Ordered

Katraj, 22nd July 2026: A long-running rivalry between two groups of teenagers allegedly culminated in the murder of a 17-year-old boy near Katraj Lake on Monday night. The Bharati Vidyapeeth Police have detained four minors in connection with the case and launched a search for three more suspects believed to have participated in the attack.

According to the police, the victim, who had a criminal record despite being a juvenile, was allegedly targeted over an old enmity. Investigators said the accused and the deceased, all school dropouts, had been involved in repeated clashes over the past several months.

Police said the victim had been booked in six cases involving serious assault and other offences since 2023. Officials alleged that he had assaulted some of the detained minors on multiple occasions in the past, leading to escalating tensions between the two groups.

Investigators believe the accused had been planning the attack for several months. On Monday night, they allegedly tracked the teenager’s movements and learned that he was near Katraj Lake at around 10 pm. Armed with sharp weapons, the group allegedly intercepted him outside a roadside eatery and launched a sudden assault.

The victim sustained multiple grievous injuries to his head, face and upper body. The attackers fled immediately after the assault, police said.
Local residents alerted the police, who rushed the injured teenager to a nearby private hospital. He was later shifted to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said some of the detained minors also have previous cases registered against them. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects allegedly involved in the murder.

Video of Minors on Police Vehicle Sparks Inquiry
Meanwhile, the Pune Police have ordered an inquiry after a video circulated on social media allegedly showed detained minors being made to sit on the bonnet of a police vehicle during the investigation.
The video, reportedly recorded on Tuesday afternoon, also appears to show a woman assaulting the detained boys while police personnel were present.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Milind Mohite said an internal inquiry has been initiated into the conduct of the police personnel seen in the video.

“An inquiry has been ordered, and appropriate action will be taken based on its findings,” the officer said.

Police have not yet commented on the identity of the woman seen in the video or the circumstances under which the incident occurred. The investigation into both the murder and the alleged procedural lapse is ongoing.
