FDA Cracks Down on Mumbai Bakeries, Suspends Six Licences; Four Ordered to Shut
Mumbai, 27th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its statewide food safety enforcement drive, taking action against several bakeries and food establishments across Maharashtra for violating food safety regulations.
As part of the special inspection campaign, FDA officials inspected 61 food establishments, including hotels, restaurants, dhabas and bakeries. Following the inspections, 34 establishments were issued improvement notices, six food business licences were suspended with immediate effect, and four establishments were directed to cease operations due to serious violations.
In Mumbai alone, 34 bakery establishments were inspected. The FDA suspended the licences of Bristol Bakery (Mahim), Anmol Bakery & Stores (Andheri East), New Maharashtra Bakery & Store (Chembur), Saba Bakery & Stores (Goregaon East), and Unnati Bakery (Dahisar West) after finding violations of food safety norms.
Additionally, Bengaluru Iyengar Bakery (Kalachowki), Golden Bakery (Ghatkopar), Mirza & Sons Bakery (Vikhroli), and Big Bite Bakery (Kandivali) were served closure notices and instructed to stop business operations.
Beyond Mumbai, the FDA also carried out enforcement actions in Amravati, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Kolhapur, where officials seized over 7,176 kg of substandard, unlabelled and non-compliant food products valued at approximately ₹4.05 lakh.
The statewide inspection drive is part of the FDA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety standards and ensure that food businesses comply with hygiene, labelling and quality regulations. Authorities have stated that strict action will continue against establishments found violating the Food Safety and Standards Act, with the objective of safeguarding public health.
