Thane: Kalyan Murbad ST Route Gets Major Boost as MSRTC Increases Daily Bus Trips from 48 to 108
Mumbai, 5th August 2026: In a major relief for commuters, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has increased the number of daily bus trips on the Kalyan–Murbad route from 48 to 108, responding to rising passenger demand and repeated complaints about inadequate services.
According to MSRTC, around 2,238 passengers travel on the Kalyan–Murbad route every day. Until May 5, 2026, only 48 round trips were operating, which proved insufficient due to the steady increase in commuters. As a result, many passengers reportedly had to rely on unauthorized transport services.
The issue was brought to the attention of Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik by local public representatives, who highlighted the inconvenience faced by daily commuters. Taking serious note of the complaints, the minister directed MSRTC officials to immediately increase bus services on the route.
Following the directive, MSRTC has introduced 60 additional daily bus trips, taking the total number of trips on the Kalyan–Murbad route to 108.
In addition, passengers from the Murbad–Saralgaon region will now also be allowed to travel on MSRTC buses originating from other depots and heading towards Umbar and Ahilyanagar, providing greater connectivity and reducing travel difficulties.
Officials said the decision aims to improve public transport accessibility, reduce dependence on illegal passenger vehicles, and ensure safer and more convenient travel for commuters on one of the region’s busiest routes.
