Selfie seekers attack cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s car at Mumbai hotel

Mumbai, 17th February 2023: Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his friends were allegedly attacked by a group of individuals who demanded selfies with him. The incident took place at a cafe in Mumbai’s Sahara Star hotel.

Two people, including a woman named Sapna Gill, reportedly approached Shaw and requested for a selfie. However, when Shaw declined to take more pictures, they began harassing him, which led to the hotel staff escorting them out. The group allegedly waited for Shaw and attacked his car with a baseball bat.

The police have registered a case of rioting, extortion, and criminal intimidation against eight people, including Sapna Gill. She has been arrested in connection with the case. Video clips of the incident went viral on social media, which prompted the police to take action.

According to the police, the complainant, Ashish Yadav, along with Shaw and Brijesh, were having dinner when the incident occurred. After dinner, when they came out of the cafe, they saw one of the two people with a baseball bat. When they were sitting in their car, the person allegedly hit the front glass of Shaw’s car with the bat.

As the situation started getting violent, Yadav sent Shaw in another vehicle, and he and Brijesh waited for some time before leaving. The group allegedly followed them and started abusing them, and an unknown person broke the back glass of the car with a baseball bat. The police said that the woman threatened to file a false complaint and demanded Rs 50,000.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Paraskar said that the police had detained some suspects and were questioning them. However, a lawyer representing Sapna Gill has denied the allegations against her and said that the FIR is false and concocted. He claimed that Shaw and his friends manhandled and beat Sapna Gill and her friend, who were requesting Shaw for a selfie.

This incident highlights the issue of celebrities and public figures being subjected to unwanted attention and harassment in public spaces.
