Central Railway Crosses Rs 2799 Crore in Passenger and Freight Revenue in First Two Months of FY 2026-27
Mumbai, 11th June 2026 : Central Railway recorded a 15.36 per cent increase in passenger revenue during April and May 2026, earning ₹1,357.20 crore compared with ₹1,176.47 crore during the corresponding period last year, according to official figures released by the railway zone.
During the two-month period, Central Railway carried 25.76 crore passengers across its network. The growth in passenger earnings came despite relatively modest gains in freight revenue.
Freight earnings for April-May 2026 stood at ₹1,442.54 crore, up 0.66 per cent from ₹1,433.12 crore recorded during the same period in 2025. Freight loading also registered growth, with 14.13 million tonnes transported compared with 13.58 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year, reflecting an increase of 4.05 per cent.
Parcel operations generated revenue of ₹45.20 crore during the first two months of the financial year. A total of 0.89 lakh tonnes of parcel traffic was transported during the period.
Revenue from leased parcel accommodation also increased. Central Railway reported that 226 Seating-cum-Luggage Rakes (SLRs) are currently under lease, compared with 163 during the corresponding period last year. Earnings from these leases rose to ₹17.22 crore from ₹12.35 crore.
Similarly, 24 parcel vans were under lease during April-May 2026, compared with 23 during the same period last year. Revenue from parcel van leasing stood at ₹9.82 crore, marginally higher than ₹9.76 crore recorded a year earlier.
Central Railway also operated 45 trips of timetabled and leased parcel cargo express services during the period. Among the major services, the Bhiwandi Road–Sankrail Goods Terminal parcel train completed nine trips and generated revenue of ₹1.85 crore. The Devlali–Danapur Shetkari Samruddhi Express completed nine trips, earning ₹0.44 crore, while another Bhiwandi Road–Sankrail Goods Terminal special mixed train generated ₹1.72 crore through nine trips.
In addition, 29 railway milk tankers attached to the Renigunta–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express in Nagpur Division generated revenue of ₹0.37 crore during the period.
The figures cover operational performance across passenger, freight, parcel and leasing segments for the first two months of the 2026-27 financial year.
