Mumbai Hit By Heavy Rains Causing Delays In Local Train Services, Flights Also Affected

Mumbai, 27th July 2023: Mumbai and its suburbs experienced heavy rainfall since Thursday morning, leading to waterlogging on railway tracks between various stations. The downpour resulted in local train services being delayed by 15 to 20 minutes at Kalyan on the Central Railway line.

Similarly, on the Western Railway line between Churchgate and Marine Drive, local services faced delays of 10 to 15 minutes, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for continued heavy rain in Mumbai. As the rains persisted, several low-lying areas in the suburbs were flooded, affecting the smooth operation of local train services on both the Central and Western lines. Trains on the Central and Harbor lines were running behind schedule by 10 to 15 minutes, leading to crowding at railway stations.

Around 4 pm, waterlogging at Kalyan caused a delay of 15 to 20 minutes in local services on the Central Railway line. Additionally, waterlogging between Churchgate and Marine Drive at around 1 pm impacted the Western Railway line, resulting in slow-speed train operations.

Furthermore, motormen and loco pilots had to exercise caution and reduce train speeds due to low visibility caused by rain and foggy weather. Consequently, the local train schedule faced disruptions, causing congestion at stations like Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Mulund, Thane, Dombivli, and Kalyan.

The adverse weather conditions also affected air services, causing reduced visibility and delays. Flights from Mumbai’s airports experienced a delay of 15 to 20 minutes, with some planes seen hovering in the sky, awaiting clearance for landing.
