Adani Group to Build Mumbai’s Largest Private Hospital in Kandivli

Mumbai, 11th February 2025: Entering the healthcare sector, the Adani Group has announced plans to establish Mumbai’s largest private hospital on a seven-acre site in Kandivli. This facility will include 1,000 beds and a medical college.
On Monday, the group revealed its intention to invest ₹6,000 crore in building two 1,000-bed multi-specialty hospitals and medical colleges in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. These projects will be developed in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, a renowned U.S.-based non-profit medical institution. Additionally, another hospital is planned near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport in Ulwe.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani stated, “Two years ago, on my 60th birthday, my family pledged ₹60,000 crore to enhance healthcare, education, and skill development.” The upcoming medical facilities, branded as Adani Health Cities, aim to provide high-quality yet affordable healthcare and medical education nationwide. These institutions will be overseen by the group’s non-profit healthcare division.
The initial projects in Mumbai and Ahmedabad will feature medical colleges that can enrol 150 undergraduate students annually, along with training programs for more than 80 resident doctors and over 40 fellows.
Mayo Clinic will offer strategic consultation on key organizational and clinical practices at the Adani hospitals. The group’s official statement highlighted that the collaboration will also focus on incorporating advanced technology, particularly in digital healthcare and quality improvement.
Announcing the initiative on social media, Gautam Adani expressed pride in launching Adani Health City in partnership with Mayo Clinic. He emphasized the group’s commitment to advancing medical research, expanding access to affordable healthcare, and strengthening medical education. “With two 1,000-bed hospitals in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, we are taking the first step toward revolutionizing healthcare in India,” he stated.
Mumbai’s western suburbs have long struggled with an inadequate hospital bed-to-population ratio, largely due to high real estate costs and urban congestion. According to recent figures from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city has 15,302 government hospital beds and 31,076 private hospital beds. Public institutions like KEM Hospital in Parel and JJ Hospital in Byculla each have between 1,500 and 2,000 beds. Among private hospitals, Bombay Hospital in Marine Lines has over 800 beds, while Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri has approximately 750.
Central Mumbai, particularly Parel, has the highest concentration of hospital beds due to major public healthcare facilities such as Tata Memorial, KEM, and Wadia Hospital. However, there is a lack of both public and private hospitals beyond Andheri.
The upcoming Adani Hospital is expected to help bridge this gap, though healthcare activists emphasize the need for affordable treatment options alongside increased capacity.
