Taj Bandstand: Mumbai’s Newest Luxury Landmark to Open by 2029

Mumbai, 11th February 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for Taj Bandstand, a luxury hotel set to be developed across from the well-known Taj Lands End in Bandra. The event saw the presence of Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, who highlighted that the project was a long-cherished vision of Ratan Tata and would serve as a significant landmark in Mumbai.

“This hotel was a project close to Ratan Tata’s heart. He was deeply involved in its planning and vision. Taj Bandstand will reflect Mumbai’s vibrancy and global stature,” Chandrasekaran stated.

The project, spanning more than two acres, is expected to be completed by 2029. It will feature 330 guest rooms and 85 premium residences, complemented by multiple dining options, convention spaces, and state-of-the-art amenities. The property is designed to merge luxury with cultural elements, including an amphitheatre and landscaped green spaces.

Acknowledging the contribution of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the Tata Group’s hospitality division, Fadnavis described the initiative as one of the most remarkable additions to Mumbai’s landscape.

“Ratan Tata personally spoke to me about this project. It will redefine Mumbai’s skyline. The city is already a major convention hub, and this hotel’s conference facilities will further strengthen that position,” he noted.

Beyond offering world-class hospitality, the development also aims to enhance the surrounding locality with recreational areas, entertainment zones, and public spaces that celebrate Mumbai’s rich cultural diversity.

Senior Tata official Puneet Chhatwal, reflecting on IHCL’s journey since the opening of The Taj Mahal Palace in 1903, described the Taj Bandstand as a tribute to Mumbai’s resilience and growing international influence.

“This project is a symbol of Mumbai’s spirit. We have secured essential pre-construction approvals, such as the Intimation of Disapproval and a provisional Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC). Full approval will allow construction to commence in 2025, with completion targeted within four years. This hotel will stand as proof that neither terrorism nor adversity can weaken our resolve,” Chhatwal remarked.

With the Taj Bandstand’s addition, IHCL’s presence in Mumbai will expand to 17 hotels, including five currently under development.

During the ceremony, Fadnavis also proposed the establishment of a Taj hotel in Nagpur. In response, Chhatwal confirmed that an MoU had already been signed for the project.
