Bombay HC Orders CBI Investigation Into Disha Salian Death Case

Mumbai, 2nd September 2026: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered a fresh Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the 2020 death of Disha Salian, former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The court also directed the CBI to register an FIR and take over the investigation from Mumbai Police.

A Division Bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale passed the order on a petition filed by Salian’s father, Satish Salian, who had raised questions over the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death and sought a fresh investigation.

The court directed the CBI to appoint a senior and experienced officer to conduct the investigation and record Satish Salian’s statement. Mumbai Police has also been directed to hand over all relevant case papers and records to the central agency.

Salian, 28, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Her death occurred six days before the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14, 2020.

Mumbai Police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case and, following its inquiry, treated the death as suicide. Salian’s father, however, had alleged that his daughter was sexually assaulted and murdered and questioned the manner in which the earlier investigation was conducted.

During the proceedings, questions were also raised over why an FIR had not been registered despite the family making allegations of rape and murder. The court had also noted issues concerning the non-availability of the post-mortem report and ADR to the family.

The High Court, however, made it clear that the order for an FIR and fresh investigation does not mean that anyone has been found guilty or should automatically be treated as an accused.

The court directed that no person should be treated as an accused unless the investigating officer finds sufficient material during the investigation to raise reasonable suspicion against them.

The CBI has now been directed to examine all aspects surrounding the circumstances of Salian’s death and proceed according to the evidence collected during the investigation. If the probe does not establish that an offence has been committed, the agency can submit an appropriate summary report before the concerned court.
