Bombay High Court Criticises Maharashtra Government About Delay In J&J Licence Decision

Mumbai, 3rd January 2023: On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court criticised the Maharashtra government and demanded an explanation for why it took more than two years before an order was made against Johnson and Johnson Private Limited (J&J) to revoke the licence for its Mulund plant to manufacture baby powder.

The corporation was arguing against the order that was issued on 15th September 2022 that ordered the licence to be cancelled before a bench of Justices G S Patel and S G Dige.

The Additional Government Pleader Milind More claimed that there were challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic and that this prevented the concerned department from acting promptly. However, the Court stated that when dealing with infant health care, decisions should be made “in 48 hours, not two years.”
