Girl Raped In Palghar, Accused Arrested

Palghar, 3rd January 2023: A 24-year-old man allegedly raped a teenage girl in the Palghar district on Sunday. The police have arrested the accused.

The Palghar police officer informed on Tuesday that the incident of rape of the teenager took place on Sunday evening when the 16-year-old girl had left her house in Nehal Pada for defecation. The accused allegedly dragged her to a nearby field and raped her. The victim and her family lodged an FIR against the accused at the police station on Monday. The police, after registering the case, immediately took cognizance of the matter and started the investigation.

Palghar police have arrested a 24-year-old man from the tribal community on the charge of rape. The police officer has informed that the accused has been arrested under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. However, the police have also informed that the investigation of the case is still going on.

The offence under Section 376 is punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than seven years. But the punishment may extend to 10 years or imprisonment for life (imprisonment till the natural death of the person in prison). Apart from this, the guilty in the cases will also be liable to pay a fine.
