Bombay High Court Orders BMC To Cover Manholes By End Of November

Mumbai, 23rd November 2022: The Bombay High Court has ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to quickly cover up all the manholes in the city. The court labelled these holes “death traps” owing to the multiple accidents and deaths they cause.

Ruju Thakker, representing one of the petitioners, stated that the city currently has over 300 holes on the service road of the Highway alone. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Abhay Ahuja was hearing the petitions regarding the same on Tuesday. Thakker further explained that authorities have taken minimal or no action despite the numerous complaints they have received.

Following the hearing of petitions, the court put forth an order that the BMC should cover these holes by 28th November and have to submit a report regarding the same by 1st December.
