Doctors To Be Appointed In Five Mortuaries In Mumbai

Mumbai, 26th March 2023: The number of post-mortem doctors in five major hospitals in Mumbai under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry is less, and it is affecting the efficiency of the doctors in service. In some of these hospitals, several dead bodies are sent for post-mortem, and there is a delay in generating the report. Keeping this matter in mind, it has been decided to fill the vacant posts of doctors in the mortuary within a month on a contractual basis, according to Kapil Patil.

The state’s home department has control over mortuaries in Mumbai’s five hospitals. These include JJ, Rajawadi, Bhagwati, Cooper and Siddharth hospitals. These mortuaries have sanctioned posts of four doctors each for post-mortem. Accordingly, there are 20 sanctioned posts in five mortuaries; out of these, five are vacant. Two posts from Rajawadi Hospital, and one each from J.J. Hospital, Siddharth Hospital and Cooper Hospital are vacant.

The Home Department tried to bring the situation under control by deputing some doctors there to reduce the burden of post-mortems in this morgue. However, considering the workload of the doctors, the five vacant posts will be filled in the next month, and the process in this regard is in the final stage.
