ED Raids 15 Locations In Mumbai Over Alleged Malpractices In COVID Hospital Contracts
Mumbai, 21st June 2023: In a shocking turn of events, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted raids at 15 places in Mumbai. These raids were conducted in connection with the alleged malpractices in the contracts awarded for COVID-19 centres.
The primary information suggests that numerous companies with no prior experience were established during the COVID-19 pandemic to secure contracts for the supply of health kits. The ED raids have targeted individuals closely associated with prominent political figures, including Sujit Patkar, a close associate of Sanjay Raut, and Suraj Chavan, a close associate of Aditya Thackeray. Additionally, a civil servant’s residence was also reportedly searched.
When asked about the investigation, State Home Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that ED will take action against everyone who has a connection to this case. “I don’t know exactly what is going on. But I can say for sure that when the COVID health centres were started in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, there was a big scam while awarding the contracts. People’s lives were literally played with, in which, many people, including one journalist, died in Pune. Right now, I am not aware of all the details regarding the investigation. ED can tell how far this investigation has reached and what has been found in this raid,” said Fadnavis.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has complained of misappropriation of Rs 38 crore in this case. The case was registered against his complaint. ED has conducted these raids in this matter. Sanjay Raut’s friend Sujit Patkar has come under the radar, and a case of fraud was filed against Sujit Patkar and three others in connection with the contract at Corona Centre.
When asked how many more people are under investigation in this case, Fadnavis said, “I do not have any details of it. Only ED officials can give accurate information in this regard.”
