Former Congress Leader Ravi Raja Joins BJP as Mumbai Vice President

Mumbai, 31st October 2024: Former Congress leader Ravi Raja, who left the party earlier on Thursday to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been appointed as the Vice President of Mumbai BJP.

After his appointment, he shared with reporters that throughout his time in Congress, he felt his knowledge and skills were never fully utilized. “I will strive to meet all my responsibilities. I believe that no one in Maharashtra expects the MVA to regain power after these elections. While Congress never capitalized on my abilities, I urge the BJP to make the most of my expertise,” he stated.

Ravi Raja formally submitted his resignation to Congress leadership and posted the letter on his social media. In his letter, he expressed, “Having served as a Youth Congress member since 1980, I dedicated myself to the party, but I now feel that my 44 years of service to Congress are not respected. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my party position.”

Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar announced Ravi Raja’s new role, welcoming him into the party with garlands and celebration. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that Raja’s move to the BJP would bolster the party’s position in Maharashtra. “Today, Congress leader Ravi Raja has joined the BJP. He is a strong leader, and we believe his addition will strengthen us. There is a positive atmosphere in Maharashtra favoring Mahayuti,” Fadnavis noted.

Raja’s transition to the BJP is a significant advantage for the party in Mumbai as the state gears up for assembly elections. The elections for the 288 Maharashtra Assembly seats are set to take place in a single phase on November 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.
