Indian Navy Successfully Test-Fires BRAHMOS Missile

New Delhi, 5th March 2023: The Indian Navy on Sunday successfully test-fired the warship version of the BRAHMOS supersonic missile in the Arabian Sea. This missile has an indigenous seeker and booster. A senior military officer said that the indigenous seeker and booster fitted in the missile has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), and it strengthens the commitment towards self-reliance in the defence sector.

BRAHMOS Aerospace Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between India and Russia, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, warships, warplanes or land. The speed of the missile is Mach 2.8, which is almost three times the speed of sound.

The anti-warship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was last successfully test-fired in April last year. India is also exporting BrahMos missiles. In June last year, India signed a USD 375 million deal with the Philippines for the supply of these missiles.
