Mumbai: 150 Electric Buses To Be Purchased By Corporation

Mumbai, 1st March 2023: The corporation has decided to purchase electric buses to reduce the load of the increased cost of fuel and curb increasing pollution. 150 buses will be purchased in the first phase. 75 buses will arrive by the end of March. 50 of these buses will run on the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

An electric charging facility will be provided on most routes, including the Mumbai-Pune highway. In the second phase, a target has been set to procure 5,000 electric buses in the ST fleet by 2024. Therefore, soon, electric charging stations will be started on the highways where electric buses are run by the ST administration. By the end of March, these buses will be operated preferentially at places with electric charging stations. At present, there are electric charging stations for buses at Borivali, Thane, Swargate, Nashik, Pune, Aurangabad, and Kolhapur.

“It is proposed to bring 150 electric buses from the corporation, and 75 electric buses will come by the end of March. These buses will be operated from Pune. There will be electric bus trips between Pune – Mumbai, Pune – Thane, Nagar, Aurangabad, Nashik, Solapur, and Kolhapur,” said Shekhar Channe, Vice President and Managing Director at ST Corporation.
