Mumbai: 64 Birds Injured Due To Kite Strings

Mumbai, 16th January 2023: On the occasion of Makar Sankranti in Mumbai on Sunday, kite flying was done on the roofs, grounds and open spaces of buildings. However, 64 birds, mostly pigeons, have been injured due to this.

Manja (sharp glass strings) used to fly kites in Mumbai on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, has turned out to be fatal for many birds. Although everyone enjoyed kite flying since morning, from children to adults, this joy cost the lives of many birds. Birds like owls, cuckoos, and others were injured.

However, most of these were pigeons. 57 pigeons were injured due to Manja. They are being treated and released by the pigeon house. Among the injured, seven birds are seriously injured, including two gharis, two cuckoos, two pigeons and one owl.
