Mumbai Airport to Shut Both Runways for Six Hours on May 7 for Pre-Monsoon Maintenance
Mumbai, 6th May 2026: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will temporarily suspend operations on both its runways on May 7 as part of its annual pre-monsoon maintenance exercise. The shutdown is scheduled between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, during which runway 09/27 and runway 14/32 will remain non-operational.
Airport authorities said the planned maintenance is a routine but critical activity undertaken every year ahead of the monsoon to ensure operational safety. Preparations for the exercise began months in advance, with airlines and other stakeholders informed early to allow rescheduling of flights and minimise inconvenience to passengers.
During the six-hour window, technical teams will carry out detailed inspections of runway surfaces to identify and address any signs of wear and tear. Preventive measures will also be implemented to ensure safe aircraft operations during the upcoming rainy season, when heavy rainfall can impact runway conditions.
Officials added that advanced equipment and systematic planning will be used to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe. The maintenance covers the airport’s extensive airside infrastructure and is aimed at maintaining long-term durability and safety standards.
CSMIA has coordinated closely with airlines and aviation authorities to manage operations efficiently during the temporary shutdown. The airport operator said the initiative is part of its broader strategy to maintain high safety benchmarks while ensuring minimal disruption to passengers.
