Mumbai: Brutal Attack on Girlfriend at Bandra Bandstand by Converted Muslim Lover

Mumbai, 2nd June 2023: The Bandra Police have apprehended a man for attempting to murder his girlfriend at Bandra Bandstand after revealing that he had converted to Islam for their prospective marriage.

The accused allegedly tried to strangle the victim, slammed her head onto the floor, and even attempted to drown her in a nearby drain. Fortunately, the victim’s condition is reported to be stable, according to the police.

The incident unfolded when Lubna Javed Sukte (28), a resident of Kongaon in Kalyan, was on an outing with her long-time partner Akash Mukherjee from Khadakpada, Kalyan. After visiting popular landmarks like the Gateway of India and Girgaon Chowpatty earlier that day, the couple arrived at Bandra Bandstand in the evening. It was then that Mukherjee informed Lubna about his conversion to Islam for the purpose of their marriage. He even showed her aunt his conversion certificate as proof of his commitment. However, at around 10 pm, Lubna expressed her desire to return home, prompting a sudden change in Mukherjee’s behavior.

According to the Bandra police, Mukherjee attempted to approach Lubna, who vehemently refused his advances and began to cry, insisting on leaving. In response, Mukherjee allegedly strangled her and intensified his assault as Lubna’s screams for help grew louder.

According to the complaint lodged, Mukherjee pulled the victim’s hair, slammed her head against the floor, and then attempted to drown her in a nearby drain. Hearing Lubna’s cries, concerned citizens rushed to her aid. At that moment, Lubna disclosed the details of the assault. Taking advantage of the commotion, Mukherjee managed to flee the scene.

The police were promptly informed, and Lubna was transported to Bhabha Hospital in a rickshaw. She had suffered profuse bleeding from her eyes and nose. The authorities have arrested Akash Mukherjee and are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
