Mumbai: Byculla Police Nab Suspect Responsible For Multiple Mobile Thefts

Mumbai, 26th December 2022: The Byculla Police announced on Monday that they had finally apprehended a 19-year-old suspect they had been searching for several days following days of researching the pattern of several mobile phone snatchings in south Mumbai.

A new episode of mobile phone snatching, according to the police, was discovered on 21st December after a complainant contacted the Byculla Police and said that he was going along the street while using his phone when a man on a bike seized it. A team working under Senior Inspector Chimaji Adhav started searching for technological hints and discovered that the suspect had a history of targeting persons using their phones while walking down the street.

The crew examined numerous CCTV recordings, according to a police officer, and discovered that the suspect had run off in the direction of the Saat Rasta Junction in Mumbai’s Agripada neighbourhood. Additionally, the team’s officials used their network of contacts to uncover more about the suspect. They discovered that he lived in the Dhobi Ghat neighbourhood, but when they searched for him, they discovered that he had left his house after the incident. According to the police, the squad continued to investigate every bit of information they learned from their sources until they learned on 24th December that the suspect would be arriving close to Dockyard Road Railway Station. So a trap was set, and the suspect, Shubham Babulal Diwakar, was caught.

Police had found as many as 15 phones on him after his detention. Investigations have shown that he was involved in at least five mobile phone robberies under the purview of the Byculla police station alone. Additional inquiries are being made to see whether he was also involved in incidents of a similar nature in other areas of the city.
