Mumbai Civic Body Installs Cold Rooms, Medications to Combat Summer Heat

Mumbai, 6th April 2024: In preparation for the scorching summer ahead, the Mumbai civic body has taken proactive measures to safeguard public health. By installing cold rooms and ensuring the availability of heat stroke medications across its health facilities, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is bolstering its response to potential heat-related emergencies.

As part of this initiative, 103 public dispensaries, including the Hindu Hridaysmrat Balasaheb Thackeray ‘Aapla Davakhana’, have been outfitted with air conditioning units. Furthermore, the BMC has designated 14 major hospitals, general hospitals, and medical colleges to host cold rooms equipped with two beds each specifically for treating heat stroke patients. To ensure effective care, medical officers and staff members have undergone specialized training in heat stroke control and prevention.

Moreover, the BMC has disseminated comprehensive guidelines for the prevention and management of heat stroke, reinforcing its commitment to public health and safety. Recognizing the heightened risk of heat-related illnesses during the hotter months of April and May, the civic body is actively promoting awareness campaigns to educate the community about preventive measures against heat stroke. Through these concerted efforts, the BMC aims to minimize the impact of extreme temperatures on the well-being of Mumbai residents.
